Hi there, future doctor!
I'm so excited that you are here and ready to take on this journey :) My name is Zeynep (she/her) and I'm an incoming medical student at the University of Toronto, St. George campus!
A little bit about me: I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey (best city in the world - I'm definitely not biased), and moved to Toronto on my own when I was 16. After finishing high school in Ontario, I moved to Montreal for undergrad and grad school. Now, I'm super excited to be back in the city I consider my first home in Canada! I played club and varsity volleyball all my life, and I'm currently getting into running and kayaking! In my free time I enjoy painting, making home-made yogurt, and going on looooong walks with friends!
As someone who got in to medical school on their third application cycle, I understand the mental endurance this process requires. Being a premed can be lonely, especially if, like me, you don't have family in Canada. I was lucky to have incredible mentors and friends who supported me throughout the journey, and I’m excited for the opportunity to be that support system for you!
I want to emphasize one thing: every applicant is different. It wasn’t until my third cycle that I went beyond listing my extracurriculars and started sharing truly personal experiences—like my immigration journey. I'm confident that this shift made all the difference in my acceptance. I also learned that it's not just about what you say, but how you say it that can make or break an application. My goal as a mentor is to thoroughly understand what makes you you, and spotlight the life experiences, values, relationships, and even hobbies that will create a compelling narrative for admissions committees. That’s why all of my services include a 30-minute meeting to get to know you better as an applicant.
I recognize that the medical school admissions process can be a significant financial strain. To help reduce this barrier and support students with financial need, I offer:
If you are interested in learning more about or participating in any of the subsidized mentorship offers, please don't hesitate to reach out :)
