VETERINARY ASSISTANT

- Effectively worked alongside animal health professionals to provide the best possible care to each patient. - Independently collected comprehensive medical histories to facilitate effective veterinary medicine. - Developed proficiency in many clinically relevant tasks, such as collecting blood samples and skin scrapings, placing intravenous catheters, and administering intramuscular, intravenous, and subcutaneous medications. - Communicated extensively with clients regarding pharmaceuticals, up-coming appointments, treatment plans, surgical discharge instructions, and emergency concerns. - Performed a range of blood chemistry tests, urinalysis, complete blood counts, SNAP tests, and fecal analyses. - Learned, developed, and expanded microscopy and slide preparation skills to assist in diagnoses from blood smears, nasal swabs, skin scrapings, as well as several other samples. - Learnt and applied histological, oncological, pathological, and cytological skills to assist in the diagnoses of varying conditions.

MASTER’S OF ANIMAL BIOSCIENCES – POULTRY WELFARE

- Collaboratively developed, wrote, and presented research proposals, experimental plans, and peer reviewed research articles. - Independently organized and completed two research projects to investigate important issues in laying hen welfare and physiology. - Handled and cared for over 1 500 research hens over a period of three years. - Presented research to a variety of different groups and received several awards for these presentations. - Developed and instituted a method of accurately tracking and selecting hens for breeding programs. - Managed large groups of graduate and undergraduate students to facilitate breeding programs. - Succeeded in breeding and maintaining 3 flocks of 300 chickens from artificial insemination to hatch over three years. - Worked effectively while maintaining high grades throughout graduate school.
