Hello! Hello! Born in Shanghai and raised in Vancouver, I completed a combined Computer Science & Microbiology/Immunology Major at UBC with an average of 95% and an MCAT of 522 (132/126/132/132) and I am currently completing my MD at UBC. Through my non-traditional degree, I was able to get involved in research projects within the fields of computational biology, data science, and applied machine learning since 2019 and have authorship in two peer-reviewed journals. I also love to work with younger students and promote scientific literacy—I have been an academic tutor and mentor for over a dozen high school students in the last six years and was a teaching assistant for three years in both computer science and biology courses.
Outside medicine, I am also passionate about computer & data science and entrepreneurship. Some of my hobbies include rock climbing, badminton, piano, snow sports, and I am also a recreational private pilot! I also spent probably way too much time browsing Reddit and YouTube.
My tip for the application process:
Besides being genuine and true to yourself on your application, the biggest thing that I felt helped enrich my application was to seek guidance from experienced and successful past applicants. I often found myself wasting so much time “reinventing the wheel” to find information about how to formulate my application when I could have saved much more time simply asking someone who has gone through the process before and already knows the ins and outs of the application. During our sessions, I hope to learn about you, helping to accentuate your strengths and work on your weaknesses, and convey your unique characteristics both your application and interviews.
