Hi future doctors! My name is John, and I am a first-year medical student at the University of British Columbia (OOP).
My first application cycle was a valuable learning experience: I received one interview and no offers, which taught me the importance of crafting a clear, cohesive narrative, showcasing the best version of yourself, and being genuinely authentic in both applications and interviews. Applying these lessons in my second cycle, I was fortunate to receive 5 interviews and 3 acceptances at Canadian medical schools. I am excited to share these insights to help other passionate future physicians navigate the process successfully.
As a first-generation medical student from Saskatoon, navigating the medical school application process alone was both daunting and challenging. Without mentorship or clear guidance, I experienced firsthand how overwhelming and uncertain the process can feel, especially when expectations and evaluation criteria seem like a “black box.”
This is where I come in! Having recently gone through the application cycle myself, I understand the importance of setting yourself up for success early and building a cohesive, authentic narrative across your application. Drawing on my experiences with both MMI and panel-style interviews, I focus on helping applicants communicate clearly, think critically under pressure, and present themselves in a way that feels genuine rather than rehearsed.
I see each mentorship opportunity as a privilege, and my goal is to help you feel confident, prepared, and supported at every stage of the medical school admissions journey while bringing clarity to the many unknowns of the admissions “black box.” I can’t wait to work with you and support you on this exciting journey!
