My name is Almira, and I’m a first-year medical student at the University of Toronto’ I immigrated from Central Asia to Canada 6 years ago on my own, and in my very first cycle applying, I was fortunate to receive interviews and an acceptance to U of T as OOP.

What sets me apart? I’ve mentored dozens of students over the years and take pride in seeing my mentees succeed — many of them reaching their dream schools on their first try. Having gone through this process as a newcomer and first-generation applicant, I know how overwhelming it can feel.
